This show was full of "B" performers. Kelly Clarkson was waaaaay above the others in talent. Adam did his thing, but his voice was so-so except for that uber high note he hit w the Donna song.
All I wanted was MORE ADAM to really show off his fabulous voice. The others were ok, but I just wanted him to sing. Levato was flat and all over the place, and Cyrus's act was a train wreck, IMO.
Adam looked and sung fine, but the Madonna song was unknown to me and probably to everyone else. She picked that song for him? I can't figure out what carpet store he got that outfit at. I hope it looked better in person. Probably was kind of pretty if you saw it up close.

I loved the show because I love Adam but this is not his kind of music. I know this is what he likes and he can sing anything. BUT his voice is so much better than this type of music, when I hear him I think what a waste of an incredibly beautiful voice. Have to say I was somewhat disappointed. Adam's skit with NeNe leakes was priceless. Adam has a great sense of comedic timing and I loved seeing his brother Neil, whose facial expression was spot on. I loved the red staging for Adam's first song, but the electronics at the beginning drowned him out and seemed off. It may have made him nervous and when his adrenaline is high I think it affects his voice. He spoke well and strongly as the host and I wish there had been more of Adam and less of the lesser known divas. Adam got some warm hugs from Kelly Clarkson and others that appreciate. There also seemed to be a problem in the beginning of Madonna's Ray of Light song. It seemed to be off like he started off too low or in the wrong key, nothing like when he did it for fun at an outdoor venue rehearsal run thru' for fans that were lurking. It's on YT and his voice was incredible. I was hoping he would rip off the Kaballah looking dress and underneath would be his sexy leather pants and shirt! The dancers all throughout seemed so effeminate and were a distraction with their silver skirts and effeminate choreography. I've always loved Terrence Spencer's dancing. He's strong and precise and doesn't have the gay stereotypical moves that seemed so prevalent tonight. I'm sure many of you will disagree with me and this is only my perception of this particular performance. The beard was also a distraction for me, as his eyes are such a magnetic focal point and the beard gave him a caricature look IMHO. Maybe it reminded me of his previous pirate look that didn't fortunately, last long. Adam's fans love him no matter what he does or how he looks and I definitely love this man, I just want him to appeal to the broadest mass as possible and hope those close to him will not just tell him what he wants to hear, but what will further his fan base here in the US. I just have to say it as I see it and really hope he will get a positive response. My sister in Chicago had friends over (an Adam party) and they had the same conclusion, saying they would rather have seen him in his sexy leather, doing his own concert. Adam's voice IMO was alittle bit shakey with his performances. I think he gets nervous or as he says intimated doing first time performances. Once he does something few times then he feels more comfortable and his voice shines. He did well with his hosting though.

I have been chating with this guy on twitter who knows a lot about Madonna's songs history. Apparently, Madonna got a lot of backlashes from the media performing this song live back in 2001. He said Adam should have performed a different song cause this song isn't any good performed live. He said this song died when it as performed live in 2001. Still i think Adam didn't do bad job performing it. Overall Adam did a fabulous job in this show and his publicist is getting tons of phone calls about how fabulous Adam was on thisg showt.

This is typical of this site, to pick pieces out of everyone including Adam himself. The VH1 Diva show was not an Adam Lambert show, it was a show put together to celebrate keeping music alive. Adam did a first class job and delivered these songs beautifully, he also did a fabulous job hosting the show, especially given the fact that he has never done this before, he deserves top marks. I too have been checking other sites and he is receiving rave reviews from almost everyone except this site and all I can say is shame on you. You treat him like some object and constantly complain about him, and you call yourself fans. Adam would be better off without you.
Ray Of Light is a difficult song to sing and I'm sure that is why Madonna wanted Adam to perform it, he did so brilliantly, it may not be to everyone's liking but I loved his interpretation of this song, and like it or not it's receiving rave reviews.

JAK, I have often thought the same thing. Adam was born to sing the songs of the stage and live theater. His voice was created for it. BUT, he also loves the greater visibility, popularity and money that comes with being in the pop music world. If he was still in theater, he might be doing very well, even star in a big show, but most of us still would not know who he was. It's two different world. The constant negative remarks get everyone down and I think out of respect for Adam and his fans, people should learn to think before they speak out of consideration for others. DRG 7:41 AM Adam has stated that he did theatre for so many years and is enjoying the opportunity of creating his own music. His concerts coming up in the new year will be held at huge venues and sound very promising, plus he is now talking about getting a new album together and how it will be done much more quickly than his last one. So who knows, anything's possible, he only needs one or two good hits he may end up by surprising everyone. Adam's not the type of person to give up his ambitions in a hurry, he'll keep going until he gets what he wants and I admire that quality.
I'd like to comment on Adam singing pop versus the theater music. Of course, the later would showcase Adam's gorgeous voice more, but Adam did not get the respect he deserved on that venue. Also, I think Adam was having trouble hearing himself sing at the beginning of the Madonna song -- he sounded a little off at first -- but then he was awesome, as usual. Those notes he hit before walking down the steps were fabius! That was my favorite, he was great all the way through! I loved that coat, long black one! He you take Adam out of that show, it be just ok! I thought he put out sang the hell out of everything. Kelley had one no. To consent rate on Ad had much more to do! First no. While I wanted Adam to showcase his voice more, I really enjoyed him as a host. And I saw a pic on twitter of his performance of the Madonna song and it looked fantastic. Adam, being aware of the visuals in this industry, knew that these pics would look great, hence the reason why he wore that outfit. The pic was really, really great. Should have copied the link.

ReplyDeleteBUT his voice is so much better than this type of music, when I hear him I think what a waste of an incredibly beautiful voice. He tones down his voice and adapts a pop sound that diminishes his true voice and talent. He should be doing Les Miserables not this.
It's like using a race horse to pull a wagon. His voice deserves better. I am not saying Adam was not good in the show, he was....what I am saying is the show was not good enough for Adam.

I love kelly but I wasn't totally impressed by that song or vocal-Don't really like that new song. I thought miley was awesome and jordin sparks as well. As far as Adam ( the only reason I watched tonight, looked drop dead georgeous _ I thought he did a great job hosting . I did not know that madonna song- bad choice IMO- he sang it well but I did feel adam needed a earth shattering moment with his vocals or song choice and we didn't get that! Don't get me wrong- I think Adam did fanstatic tonight but there were no songs that let him shine like we all knows he does!

Have to say I was somewhat disappointed. Adam's skit with NeNe leakes was priceless. Adam has a great sense of comedic timing and I loved seeing his brother Neil, whose facial expression was spot on. I loved the red staging for Adam's first song, but the electronics at the beginning drowned him out and seemed off. It may have made him nervous and when his adrenaline is high I think it affects his voice. He spoke well and strongly as the host and I wish there had been more of Adam and less of the lesser known divas. Adam got some warm hugs from Kelly Clarkson and others that appreciate. There also seemed to be a problem in the beginning of Madonna's Ray of Light song. It seemed to be off like he started off too low or in the wrong key, nothing like when he did it for fun at an outdoor venue rehearsal run thru' for fans that were lurking. It's on YT and his voice was incredible. I was hoping he would rip off the Kaballah looking dress and underneath would be his sexy leather pants and shirt! The dancers all throughout seemed so effeminate and were a distraction with their silver skirts and effeminate choreography. I've always loved Terrence Spencer's dancing. He's strong and precise and doesn't have the gay stereotypical moves that seemed so prevalent tonight. I'm sure many of you will disagree with me and this is only my perception of this particular performance. The beard was also a distraction for me, as his eyes are such a magnetic focal point and the beard gave him a caricature look IMHO. Maybe it reminded me of his previous pirate look that didn't fortunately, last long. Adam's fans love him no matter what he does or how he looks and I definitely love this man, I just want him to appeal to the broadest mass as possible and hope those close to him will not just tell him what he wants to hear, but what will further his fan base here in the US. I just have to say it as I see it and really hope he will get a positive response. My sister in Chicago had friends over (an Adam party) and they had the same conclusion, saying they would rather have seen him in his sexy leather, doing his own concert. Maybe I'm off base, but what did y'all think?

ReplyDeleteAdam's voice IMO was alittle bit shakey with his performances. I think he gets nervous or as he says intimated doing first time performances. Once he does something few times then he feels more comfortable and his voice shines. He did well with his hosting though.

ReplyDeleteI have been chating with this guy on twitter who knows a lot about Madonna's songs history. Apparently, Madonna got a lot of backlashes from the media performing this song live back in 2001. He said Adam should have performed a different song cause this song isn't any good performed live. He said this song died when it as performed live in 2001. Still i think Adam didn't do bad job performing it. Overall Adam did a fabulous job in this show and his publicist is getting tons of phone calls about how fabulous Adam was on thisg showt.

This is typical of this site, to pick pieces out of everyone including Adam himself. The VH1 Diva show was not an Adam Lambert show, it was a show put together to celebrate keeping music alive. Adam did a first class job and delivered these songs beautifully, he also did a fabulous job hosting the show, especially given the fact that he has never done this before, he deserves top marks. I too have been checking other sites and he is receiving rave reviews from almost everyone except this site and all I can say is shame on you. You treat him like some object and constantly complain about him, and you call yourself fans. Adam would be better off without you.

Ray Of Light is a difficult song to sing and I'm sure that is why Madonna wanted Adam to perform it, he did so brilliantly, it may not be to everyone's liking but I loved his interpretation of this song, and like it or not it's receiving rave reviews.

ReplyDeleteCould we not be so thin-skinned about our honest opinions? We're all adult with different tastes, and if we don't agree with another's point of view, we shouldn't take it personally. "Apples and oranges", Adam would say, taking criticisms well, even if he doesn't like them. One of the things I admire about Adam is that he gives us and himself permission to state opinions. Adam comes close to being the perfect entertainer and human specimen, which sometimes makes us forget to treat him like a mortal being, and not a deity. Part of being a fan of his is bouncing our thoughts off one another and learning how others see him. Because he is performance art of the best kind, Adam will always pique our interest and opinions. Stifle the impulse to react to Adam honestly and you destroy a big part of the fan experience: the freedom to enjoy him as we see or want him to be--no different than marrying someone because we think we can change them--of course a futile act. Negative comments are critiques that come from a place of honesty, and yes, love, even if deemed wrong by others. Chase those away whose opinion we don't agree with and soon, you will be commenting to yourself alone. BTW, I think it is only decent that if we castigate one's viewpoint that we identify ourselves and not hide behind "anonymous". For some reason I like to know who I'd like to throw daggers to who just finished slashing me (No, I'm a pacifist, and don't act on thoughts) I'd like to think that as adult fans, we do not suggest anyone should leave this site or be so sensitive for Adam, because if Adam were so thin-skinned, he could not be working so hard to entertain us. We do not honor Adam, who has endured the target of more slings and arrows for being his honest, brave self, by being such wimps for fans. I thought Adam did great throughout the entire Show! I was one of the people who did not know "Ray of Light" but I really enjoyed the way Adam sang the song! Adam had so much to do and he managed to be a total pro throughout. Any petty remarks are of no consequence to me. Adam is a human being after all, and no one could of done a better job than he did. ReplyDeleteJAK, I have often thought the same thing. Adam was born to sing the songs of the stage and live theater. His voice was created for it. BUT, he also loves the greater visibility, popularity and money that comes with being in the pop music world. If he was still in theater, he might be doing very well, even star in a big show, but most of us still would not know who he was. It's two different world. I kind of hope he does live theater again someday. At least for while. Then those pipes can be used for their maximum power and beauty. I love your "using a race horse to pull a wagon" analogy. You're exactly right. I'm just grateful that AI and pop music brought him to us in the first place. Hopefully, bigger things are yet to come! He IS a risk-taker, after all.

The constant negative remarks get everyone down and I think out of respect for Adam and his fans, people should learn to think before they speak out of consideration for others. I thought Adam was wonderful tonight and did a great job. I also enjoyed the diva video where Adam receives his diva training. It was hilarious and this guy can really act, he has a very good sense of timing, he's so versatile.

ReplyDeleteAdam has stated that he did theatre for so many years and is enjoying the opportunity of creating his own music. His concerts coming up in the new year will be held at huge venues and sound very promising, plus he is now talking about getting a new album together and how it will be done much more quickly than his last one. So who knows, anything's possible, he only needs one or two good hits he may end up by surprising everyone. Adam's not the type of person to give up his ambitions in a hurry, he'll keep going until he gets what he wants and I admire that quality.
I'd like to comment on Adam singing pop versus the theater music. Of course, the later would showcase Adam's gorgeous voice more, but Adam did not get the respect he deserved on that venue. It's very possible that he will go back to his "roots" one day, but for now, I congratulate Adam on his "pop" success and bravery in this very difficult route he is undertaking!
